Advantages to a Media Room
Lights, camera, ACTION! Having your own media room in your home allows you the opportunity to truly make it your own. Most people think that having a media room or home theater is for the uber rich, but now they are more affordable than ever! In-home media rooms are a way to show off your theatrical individuality and impress your neighbors, or make them jealous! These media rooms also combine the ease and accessibility to watch your favorite movie or home videos if you want to embarrass your kids without the hassle of getting the pups in the car and driving to the local Cineplex. Most media rooms are just like the cushy theaters but they have a home touch feel to it. If you are like me I do not like the dull and unimaginative colors in the movie theaters, so being able to design your own media room will be where you can shine! Greens, pinks and bright yellows might not be the most conventional colors to splash up on the walls but they may be YOUR favorite (these crazy and fun colors can blind whoever comes in or scream louder than your aunt’s favorite blouse)! Some movie stars, athletes and even Ozzy, seem to love having the opportunity to show their artistic abilities, or lack of, by making their media rooms their own, so why can’t you? The installers of these media rooms will give you, the owner, full reins over the design process and decorating the place to either match the antiques down the hall or match your personality! One of the best but sometimes an instant sleep aid, are the comfy couches that you can put in to make the experience a blast or a total snooze fest, both are fine by me! Many media rooms have the ability to come alive, without the crazy doll, and adding a few personal touches that can also enhance the feel of your family’s individuality. Recess lighting and velvet curtains are always symbolic of the theater, but not a requirement. One cool and interesting way to decorate the walls would be to do a cement wall, and it also allows for the kids, parents and grandparents the opportunity to act like a real live movie star and imprint their hands along with their signature! Having a chalkboard wall is also a fun way for the kids or you to write and say who’s next up to put the movie in! Framing the individual pictures of all your family can also be a great way to add that personal feeling. If you really love your kids, some home media theaters are stocked with candy and a popcorn machine! If your kids ask you why you are having all the fun designing it yourself you can say one of two things, either ‘because I’m your mother and I say so’, or, the fun answer - you can say that if they want to add their design then go for it and in the meantime, think to yourself that it all looks the same when the lights are off!!!
