Snap, Crackle and Pop

Today’s post is all about the fun part when it comes to media rooms: the snacks. Tha Media Room presents a tasty trio of recipes for munch-worthy treats in front of your big screen.

Popcorn Balls

Ingredients

2 cups sugar

1 1/3 cups water

1/2 cup light corn syrup

1 teaspoon white vinegar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

18 cups popped corn

In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, syrup, vinegar, and salt. Cook over high heat until mixture reaches 255 degrees F (hard-ball stage) on a candy thermometer. Stir in vanilla. Pour over popped corn, tossing gently to coat. When mixture is cool enough to handle, press popcorn into 3-inch balls with lightly greased hands. Cool completely on waxed paper.

Chex and The City Mix

Toss 4 or 5 cups Chex cereal and 1 1/2 cups goldfish crackers in a roasting pan with 1/3 cup teriyaki sauce and 4 tablespoons melted butter. Bake at 250 degrees for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Spread on paper towels and cool slightly, then toss with wasabi peas and chow mein noodles.

Parmesan Popcorn
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
3/4 teaspoon coarse salt
1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil

Combine Parmesan, salt, and pepper. Toss hot popcorn with oil to coat evenly, then toss with Parmesan mixture.
