Planning Your Space

At Tha Media Room, we like to remind clients that you don’t have to have a huge pre-determined media space in your home to accomplish a media room. It can be an ordinary-sized room, a section of a room and, many times, it is a multi-purpose room that ends up serving as the in-house media area. The key is to using what works for you and your space—and filling it with super awesome media!

Here are some ideas to consider for your at-home media room. Fabric and drapes are a great way to achieve the feel of a movie-like theater, without the extra expense of going all the way. Especially for rooms with no windows, faux curtains on the wall can create the illusion of space and drama (think floor-to-ceiling curtains) and large drapes framing the TV or projection screen will remind you of a real theatre.

Other design details, like crown molding and faux banisters affixed to windows, can create a sense of drama and grandeur—taking your media room from regular to spectacular with just a few additions! If the banister-lined windows aren’t your style, invest in superior crown molding to upgrade the room you’re using for your media space. Or have a projector installed so you can use a drop-down screen (this also saves space instead of having to install a TV). When the room isn’t in use for media, the projection screen can be drawn up—and even hidden behind a curtain—leaving the room available for other activities or forms of entertainment.
