Movie Reel

Used to, renting a movie consisted of getting in your car and driving to the local movie rental store, like Blockbuster, selecting your favorite film and paying anywhere from $2 to 6$ to take the flick home for two days. That’s if the movie was still available—new releases were always rented out and hard to find!

Now the movie renting biz has changed—and for the better. Many people use Netflix or other streaming video services and DVD rental outlets to receive films quickly by mail and then exchange them as desired. There’s no wait and no gas required. Online streaming content is quickly becoming popular and may one day even replace the need to visit your mailbox.

Nextflix provides a large range of “instant play” movies that can be streamed through Internet-accessible TVs and other media devices like Blu-ray DVD players as well as Playstation, Wii and Xbox. Another similar service is known as Vudu, which plans to add a dedicated Vudu button to select remote controls. (This just after Netflix announced its plans to do the same.)

Vudu, which touts access to over 20,000 movies—including new releases, independent films and popular titles—rents films for $2 for two nights with no subscription fees. Their new Vudu button is expected to appear on remotes for Vizio HDTVs, 3D TVs and Blu-ray players.
