What do you need?

If you’re just embarking on your home theater set-up, Tha Media Room is here to help. Our blog is chock full of ideas, trends, tips, advice, movie reviews, the latest technology and more. Today, we explore a few basic must-haves that will turn your in-house media space into the ultimate retreat.

Let’s start with the most obvious: a big screen. Having a dedicated space in your home for media means you get to have the biggest, screen you want. Recently, we did a post about Sharp’s new 70-inch LCD HDTV—the largest TV screen on the market, far out measuring the former largest size of 55-inches. But if that still doesn’t do it for you, consider a projector. You can enjoy your media on a 10-foot screen, but would need to sit farther back to fully enjoy the picture.

Next up is surround sound. You can have a great TV but if you can’t hear it very well, what’s the point? A 5.1 system is your best go-to option, which means you’d have five full-range speakers and one subwoofer to thump out all that wonderful bass. However, if you want to really crank things up, six- and seven-speaker systems can also be on the menu! Tha Media Room works with the top home theater vendors to provide you with quality choices and prices for speaker systems, so tell us what you’re looking for and we can help narrow down the options.

Thirdly, you need to be able to control all these things! In addition to a projector or a DVD or Blu-ray DVD player, you need a universal remote to control sound, picture and output. While the universal remote is nothing new in itself, there are several new systems out there that do even more than ever. Again, this is something we’re happy to walk you through to ensure you’ve chosen the best match for your system.

Lastly, you’ll need something to watch! Blu-ray DVDs, new DVD releases and even 3D DVD releases are all readily available. Once you’re home theater is complete, it’s time to get the party started!
